Fate Series, 2023-24
Throughout history and culture, there are many myths about the thread of fate. In Chinese mythology, Yue Lao unites predestined people. In Greek mythology, it is the moirae or the fates. In Spanish households, the color red is very significant as it symbolizes valor and blood. The Fate series encapsulates the exploration of the string of fate and how it binds people together. Through theatrical play, the series allows the subjects to embody otherworldly characters in order to step back and investigate the self as another. Much like Cindy Sherman’s self-portraits, the Fate series emphasizes external appearance to shift to the representation of the inner world. In doing so, the photographs reinforce the experiences of self and identity. This series aims to give people a chance to self-reflect and grow through performance.
